State Programs

Every state has its own unique profile. Each one differs in economic climate, educational infrastructure and technology focus. And who knows more about the play of these dynamics than the people who live and work there? That's why TECH CORPS chapters organize and implement at the state level. Click on the state name to find out what's happening in your state.

The national TECH CORPS organization assists motivated local leaders from business and education in forming state chapters that develop programs that address the unique needs of their own schools and communities. The state chapters have a great deal of latitude within the TECH CORPS framework and the programs they develop are as different as the states themselves. These few examples are not meant to reflect the total amount of work being done at the state level, but its diversity:

  • South Carolina and Washington state volunteers assist schools in the training, certification and deployment of Student-Run Help Desks through our national Student TECH CORPS Program.

  • In Seattle, Baltimore and Houston, volunteers provide soft skills (employability skills) to students through our national Skills4Success Program.

  • Wisconsin and Georgia volunteers refurbish donated equipment, then provide the equipment and teacher training to the schools.

  • Washington, DC volunteers hold weekly workshops on Internet and networking basics for area teachers

  • Ohio volunteers partner with teachers and students to train Student Technology Assistants, create Web sites and enhance curriculum with technology tools

If these activities appeal to you, or if you have an idea for a technology project that could benefit your school, get involved in your state TECH CORPS chapter. To learn about how State Chapters are formed, review Organizing a State Chapter
