Techie Workshop Program Overview
Techie Workshops are one-day or two-day experiences designed to engage elementary, middle and high school students in hands-on computer science activities, ranging from programming or app development to robotics or 3D printing.
Each workshop has two (2) instructors and up to 20 students.

Position:     Instructor, Part-Time, Temporary
Wage:     $20-$25 per hour (amount varies based on length, location and program funder)
Dates/Time:     Techie Workshops will be offered throughout the year. Techie Workshops can run any day typically from 8:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm (Instructors arrive one hour prior to program start and stay no later than one hour after program end)
Locations:     Techie Workshops are offered via partnerships with colleges/universities, K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations in Central and Northeast Ohio as well as Albany and Buffalo, New York.


  • Programming (C++, C#, Java, Python)
  • Web Design & Development (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3) and Content Management Systems
  • Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
  • Robotics and Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Must have experience with industry standard and open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation,
    web authoring and programming environments.
  • 3D Printing platforms (TinkerCAD, SketchUp, Makerbot, Polar 3D)
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred but not required.
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching or teaching groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban teenagers is a plus.

The Techie Workshop Instructor will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all day-to-day aspects of the workshop, including but not limited to:

  • Attend training session prior to Club start date
  • Familiarize and become an expert on Techie Club tools (software & hardware)
  • Review lessons/activities prior to Club and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
  • Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
  • Create a safe classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
  • Record Club through photos and videos, which need to be uploaded to Dropbox
  • Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
  • Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
  • Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
  • Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
