International Resources

Geekcorps is committed to expanding the benefits of the Internet Revolution internationally, using information technology to improve the economic prospects of developing nations. Drawing upon local ideas and needs, Geekcorps works in partnerships with local businesses in developing countries to determine how to best address the technical needs. Geekcorps then selects volunteers with the expertise to meet those needs. Geekcorps trains its volunteers to teach their skills to people from different backgrounds. Volunteers spend three to six months on-site in developing nations, supported by Geekcorps' in-country staff. They spend their working hours helping their partner businesses. And spend their free time exploring their host country and meeting its people.

World Computer Exchange, Inc. is a U.S. non-profit organization established to ship donated new and used, working Internet-accessible computers to formal and informal schools in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Students in these schools are partnered on-line with interested schools in industrialized countries. World Computer Exchange also arranges for small teams of U.S. student "ambassadors" to visit some of the participating schools in developing countries. The "ambassadors" provide training to interested local students in computer and Internet use and maintenance. In exchange, the hosting schools and communities teach the "ambassadors" about their local culture, history, and language.
