Compilations of Resources

A resource compilation is a list of links to pages with information on particular subjects. Such a list may be constructed by a program, but it is often created by someone who, like you, is interested in a particular topic and has already searched the Web for sites with information on this subject. Being a generous soul, he has decided to place on the Web a list of links to some of his favorite sites with information about this subject, so that others who share his interest in the topic can easily locate the information.

For example, here is a list of sites with information about soccer:

And here is a list of lists of pages with information on a broad range of topics. (Remember to return to this page with the browser's "Back" button or the "Back in Frame" command if you check the lists.)

But how does someone who provides you with such a list find the sites herself? She may start from one or more other resource compilations, clicking on the links, and keeping a list of only the ones that she finds the most useful. Or she may start with such a list, check some of the links, and then follow a link on one of these pages to a site that was not on any of her original lists. This may take her to many new sites with information about her topic that she had not previously known about.

Or she may conduct part or all of her search for sites with relevant information by using a search engine. You'll see next that you can also easily use such a tool.
