What happens when you put Ohio’s bright young minds in a room with real-world problems and a deadline? Some truly amazing tech. Three-hundred students will soon unleash their creativity at the 7th annual Tech Corps Hackathon. It’s a day of coding, problem-solving, and teamwork, and it may spark the next big idea in tech! Joining Crystal in the studio is the CEO of Tech Corps, Lisa Chambers, as well as two of last year’s winners, Lauren Johnson and Nyamekye Arhin!

On Saturday, November 15, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., TECH CORPS will host the 7th Annual TECH CORPS Hackathon in Columbus. Three hundred high school students will team up to design apps addressing real-world challenges. It’s an energetic, hands-on event that does more than introduce coding—it advances career readiness by building technical skills, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication in an authentic project environment.

Why this matters:

  • Casting a wider net for talent: The Hackathon engages students from diverse schools and neighborhoods—many who are not yet connected to existing pipelines—expanding the region’s future tech talent pool.
  • Workforce relevance: Students work alongside tech professionals and community partners, gaining exposure to pathways that lead to internships, pre-apprenticeships, and early work-based learning.
  • Ohio competitiveness: By sparking interest and confidence in technology, the event supports Ohio’s long-term innovation and workforce goals.

In addition to spots for 300 high school students, TECH CORPS needs community volunteers.
