How did you first get involved with TECH CORPS?
I got involved when a friend told me about a class called TACOS, which was part of Student TECH CORPS. I had never done anything with technology before, but it sounded interesting. I decided to try it, and that one choice completely changed my high school experience and future.
What role did TECH CORPS play in your high school life?
Before tech, I did not have many extracurricular interests. Once I joined Student TECH CORPS, it became my place at school. I met my core group of friends there, people who shared the same interests in tech and gaming, and those friendships have lasted well beyond high school.
How did the program impact you in a rural community?
Growing up in a rural community, you do not expect access to strong technology programs. TECH CORPS made tech education accessible in places where it is not normally available. Without that class, I probably would never have discovered technology or realized it was something I could be good at.
What skills did you gain through TECH CORPS?
Through the program, I learned hands-on technical skills and professional habits like accountability and customer service. Earning my CompTIA certification was especially important. It prepared me for real-world work and played a key role in helping me secure my current position as a Maintenance Technician with Graham Local Schools.
Why is TECH CORPS important for rural schools?
Student TECH CORPS gives students another path, especially those who are not interested in sports or traditional activities. Tech creates opportunities where options can feel limited. It helps students discover talents, build valuable skills, and see a future for themselves without having to leave their community.
