What led you to TECH CORPS, and how did it shape your path?
I was a student at Centennial High School when I spotted a TECH CORPS flyer in the principal’s office. I filled it out and sent my application, but I did not know it would completely change my path. What started as a summer program opened the door to a future rooted in education, empowerment, and equity in tech.
What TECH CORPS experiences shaped your education path?
Before TECH CORPS, I was all about hardware—taking computers apart and putting them back together. But when I joined the Web Development program, everything shifted. I didn’t realize coding could be so hands-on and creative. That experience opened my eyes to a whole new side of technology and completely changed the direction of my education.
What inspired your career path?
The passionate leadership of the TECH CORPS staff, mainly Carla, stuck with me. She saw something good in every student and made us feel seen and supported. Watching her energy and how she empowered others made me want to become a teacher. Now, I want to be that person for my students.
How does TECH CORPS continue to shape your approach as a teacher?
Today, I teach technology, focusing on inclusion and encouragement, just like TECH CORPS taught me. My classroom is a place where every student feels seen and supported. I’m especially intentional about uplifting underrepresented voices, particularly young women of color. I don’t say “guys” anymore because I want every student, especially young ladies like me, to know they belong in tech.
What’s the long-term value of TECH CORPS?
TECH CORPS changed my life, and now I get to pay it forward. Inspired by my experience, some of my students have joined TECH CORPS. Like TECH CORPS did for me, I try to find something in every student, support them, and show them what’s possible.
