We’re thrilled to announce that Jay Shaffstall has joined TECH CORPS as Manager, Programs & Curriculum, formalizing a relationship that spans more than 15 years. Jay brings a special blend of industry expertise, academic leadership, and an unwavering commitment to student empowerment.

Jay Brings Real-World AI Expertise to TECH CORPS

Jay’s current path is a testament to the TECH CORPS mission to deliver meaningful, career-connected technology programs that create opportunities for K-12 students and educators. After scaling a successful 15-year software development career, Jay transitioned to education, where he taught Computer Science at Muskingum University. His computer science classes are known for their real-world application, project-based learning, and deep student connection. “What drew me to teaching was the opportunity to connect with students in meaningful ways,” he shared.

That same passion for education led Jay to launch summer coding camps in under-resourced rural communities like Muskingum County. In 2017, he created Sisterhood ReCoded, a coding camp to support middle school girls in exploring Computer Science in a safe, supportive environment. Jay saw firsthand how students lacked access to quality tech education, and he stepped up.

From the beginning, Jay and TECH CORPS have shared a vision: to broaden participation in tech and create pathways for all students to succeed. Jay’s values aligned naturally with TECH CORPS when he began volunteering in 2011 with the Ohio Affiliate of the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Awards.

Jay also brings an educator’s lens to Al. “Personally, I’ve used tools like Gemini to help design systems. It’s great for brainstorming if you already know what you’re doing, but it can mislead if you don’t,” he said. “That’s part of what I want to ensure happens in TECH CORPS programs. Students should walk away not just knowing how to use Al but understanding its limitations.”

Bridging Technology, Education, and Innovation

With his dual background as a technologist and award-winning educator, Jay will be on a team to lead TECH CORPS’ curriculum strategy into a new era, to ensure every K-12 student builds the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to thrive in a tech-driven world.

Please join us in welcoming Jay to the TECH CORPS team. As we celebrate TECH CORPS’ 30th Anniversary, Jay’s bold vision for ethical, forward-looking tech education will be integral in shaping what’s next for our students.
