How did you first get involved with TECH CORPS?
I joined TECH CORPS in 10th grade at John Adams College and Career Academy High School, where I graduated in 2022. My first experience was Student TECH CORPS in 2020, where we built computers. I also competed in TECH CORPS Hackathons in Akron in 2019 and 2022. Winning the second one boosted my confidence and helped me see my potential in tech.
What TECH CORPS experiences shaped your goals?
Through building hardware, I realized I didn’t want to work with it long term. But during Student WEB CORPS in 2021, I found that I enjoyed coding, even when it challenged me. Those experiences helped me discover what parts of tech I was drawn to and where I wanted to focus.
Why did you choose cybersecurity?
Another program introduced me to cybersecurity, but TECH CORPS gave me the foundation. I decided to major in computer science to better understand the coding behind cybersecurity. The blend of technical knowledge and problem-solving felt like the right path for me.
Who supported your journey?
Dave Kelly and Mr. Trujillo from Student WEB CORPS had a big impact. Dave reminded me to keep trying, even when things were hard. Mr. Trujillo encouraged me to always be doing something productive. Their support helped me believe in myself and stay on track.
What are you doing now?
I’m currently a cybersecurity intern with the City of Cleveland and a school-year tutor. I’ve grown more confident in teaching and adapting to others’ learning styles. I will graduate from Cleveland State University in 2027 with a degree in Computer Science. Thank you, TECH CORPS, for giving me the tools and belief to keep moving forward.
