What led you to TECH CORPS, and how did it shape your path?
During my sophomore year, my computer science teacher called me to the office. I thought I was in trouble, but she and Michelle Moore offered me a spot in Student TECH CORPS. That fall and spring, we built a website for the Federal Bar Association, which is still live today.
How did TECH CORPS influence your decision to study computer science?
That website project was my first real exposure to coding. I attended John Marshall IT, where tech was everywhere, so I was already building skills. After that fall, I joined Student Web Corps in the summer, where I quickly realized teamwork mattered as much as coding.
What are you doing now, and how does TECH CORPS still impact you?
I recently graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a computer science degree and am searching for my first job. My TECH CORPS experience prepared me well. I built my own portfolio website, which I share like a digital resume, helping me network, stand out, and showcase my work to employers.
What TECH CORPS memory stands out as most meaningful?
My second summer in Web Corps was stressful. My team was not working well, and I felt like I was carrying the load. Our instructors, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Trullio, pulled us aside and pushed us to work as one unit. We did, presenting a strong final website and proving to ourselves that teamwork could make us succeed.
What lasting lessons from TECH CORPS still guide you today?
TECH CORPS exposed me to web design and a real work environment. It was my first job, where I earned money as a Web Corps student while learning hard work, perseverance, and the importance of delivering results. Those lessons carried me through college and continue to drive me as I launch my career.
