Building Blocks of Computer Science:

September Professional Development Opportunity

Are you an out-of-school time educator in Ohio looking for resources to engage your 3rd-8th grade students in computer science?

Join us on Tuesday, September 17th or Thursday, September 25th from 9AM to 2PM in Columbus, OH for a FREE session and leave with activities and resources for your out-of-school time program!

During these sessions you’ll gain valuable strategies and resources for implementing “unplugged” technology activities with students. No devices are required, allowing you to explore key concepts and activities creatively.

Selected participants will:

• Leave with lessons for implementing computer science in your program
• Obtain Ohio Approved credit (pending approval)
• Receive a $100 stipend for completing the lessons with students and returning student surveys
• Have opportunities to participate in a Computer Science-focused Community of Practice

Who should apply:

• Ohio out-of-school time educators who work directly with students in 3rd-8th grades
• Notifications of selection will be sent by August 30th

Confidence: How TECH CORPS is Reshaping Girls’ Tech Futures

TECH CORPS creates safe, supportive learning environments for students. This summer, with support from Google, TECH CORPS used technology to increase girls’ confidence and skills.

The 2024 Girls & STEM Impact Report reveals that 57% of girls don’t believe they’re smart enough for their dream careers. Through Techie Camp, we aim to change that by fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

We are grateful to Google for partnering with us to educate, excite, and empower elementary and middle school girls in Ohio this summer!

Kasey Wilson’s Journey with

TECH CORPS

Kasey Wilson shares her inspiring journey from high school student to software engineer to teacher. Starting with TECH CORPS in high school, Kasey continued her involvement through college, eventually working as a software engineer for JP Morgan Chase. After six years, she transitioned to teaching software engineering at Columbus Downtown High School. She returned to TECH CORPS on her summer break to lead a data analytics Techie Camp.

Kasey’s lifelong passion for teaching began at age five and guided her through a fulfilling career path. Despite challenges, she credits the support from mentors and peers for helping her stay focused and confident.

Her story is a testament to the importance of perseverance, passion, and invaluable support from the TECH CORPS community.

TECH CORPS Summer Staff: Empower Students & Transform Lives

TECH CORPS summer staff are passionate about empowering students with technology. Many staff members study computer science and are eager to share their knowledge with the next generation.

Leaders like Anin and Camille find joy in connecting with students and being role models. They love the unique opportunities that TECH CORPS offers—opportunities that go beyond traditional teaching roles and that also include a competitive wage.

Join us for the 6th Annual

TECHCORPShack

This year, 500 Ohio high school students will participate in the TECH CORPS hackathon. Students in Akron, Cleveland, Dayton, and Elyria will compete on Saturday, November 9th, and students in Columbus will compete on Saturday, November 16th. The TECHCORPShack is a 12-hour event in which high school students learn how to develop a mobile app and then build an app to tackle real-world needs or challenges.
