DECEMBER 2024

Logo

Hi Friends!

As we get ready to say “hello” to 2025, let’s take some time to reflect on all the ways our students and educators flourished in 2024. In your December edition of TECH CORPS Bytes, you will discover how students developed their skills and expanded their knowledge at the TECH CORPS Annual Hackathon and how educators are preparing to unlock computer science with their students.

Thank you for supporting our mission. We look forward to educating, exciting, and empowering students and educators with you in the New Year!

TECHCORPShack

Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators

Hundreds of Ohio high school students participated in the 2024 statewide TECH CORPS Hackathon in Akron, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Elyria. Over two exciting 12-hour days on November 9th and 16th, these young innovators tackled global challenges with local solutions, creating mobile apps using SwiftUI development software.

For many participants, it was their first time coding, offering a hands-on introduction to project-based learning. Along the way, students gained collaboration and presentation skills, preparing them for success in the classroom and tomorrow’s workforce.

In 2024, we engaged nearly 2,400 students through programs across five states, offering hands-on technology experiences that inspire creativity and build critical skills. Over 100 educators gained strategies to bring computer science into their classrooms. Our largest hackathon yet united hundreds of Ohio high school students to tackle real-world challenges.

Computer Science Education Week

Expanding Access to Computer Science

Ohio Tech Day 2024 logo

TECH CORPS, in partnership with Hyland, is celebrating Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) with a special event to expand access to computer science for more students.

Through our long-standing partnership with Hyland, TECH CORPS has developed free lessons for 3rd–8th grade educators to inspire students to explore careers in computer science.

Educators from 17 states will use these lessons with more than 25,000 students during CSEdWeek, an annual event dedicated to inspiring students and highlighting the importance of K-12 computer science education.

Join the excitement this CSEdWeek (December 9–15, 2024) and follow the journey on social media at #UnlockCS2024 to see how students are diving into computer science careers!
