With support from the Nordson Corporation Foundation and in partnership with the Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center (WHHRC) TECH CORPS brought its signature Techie Camp program to the rural community of Portal, Georgia. Through the partnership with Nordson, we learned about the great need in this small community. WHHRC hosted two weeks of Techie Camp for middle school students. WHHRC Director Dr. Gayle Jackson shares how the community came together to support students.
Student WEB CORPS Launches in Chicago
We are so proud to launch Student WEB CORPS in Chicago this summer. Chicago Program Manager Jeremy Rembert explained the vital need for technology education in the area. Born and raised in Chicago, Rembert has dedicated the last 10 years to working in educational development. His newest venture with TECH CORPS will continue to elevate minds within his community for generations.
Please share this information with any high school student(s) in South Chicago who might benefit from our Student WEB CORPS learn and earn program July 5 – August 12.
TECH CORPS students were inspired by The Ohio State University Dean of Engineering Dr. Ayanna Howard. The Dean visited with elementary and middle school students at our Techie Camp Robotics program held in Hitchcock Hall on campus. Students shared their projects and got to ask the Dean questions about her experience as a world-class Roboticist!
Homegrown Change
The work we do at TECH CORPS is a testament to the magic that is created when communities pour back into each other. This summer Lorain County siblings David and Cameron Payne came together to positively impact the lives of students through technology education in the place they call home.
Marjorie Mendez began exploring computer science through TECH CORPS in 2015. Over the next three years, she participated in Computing Career Corps, Student WEB CORPS and our TECH CORPS Hackathon. Today, she continues to build her technology knowledge through an Apprenticeship at Nationwide Insurance.
