TECH CORPS programs kick-off on June 5th and the learning continues all summer long! K-12 students will explore technology topics including 3-D printing, app development, data analytics, digital animation, web development, and more. Find a program NEAR YOU!

We are currently recruiting folks to join us for a virtual volunteer opportunity. Please take a few minutes to discover how you can get involved as you read your June edition of TECH CORPS Bytes!

We’re looking for 50+ tech mentors to work with our high school students this summer.

Five hours of your time will make a BIG impact on our students. You’ll be the “client” while students develop a website. You don’t have to be super technical, just have a heart to give feedback and encouragement.

Please consider sharing your skills and empowering students. If you are interested email volunteer@techcorps.org.

We are grateful to our WillowTree Apps volunteers for sharing career talks with our Computing Career Corps students. The students learned about the many paths to a career in technology. They even had the opportunity to pose questions to a WillowTree Software Engineer, Product Designer and Project Director. The program is sponsored by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and administered by the Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services.

Tech professionals from Abercrombie & Fitch Co. shared career talks at Columbus Alternative and Mifflin High Schools during In Demand Jobs Week. Students interacted with A&F’s Information Security Director; Product Management Leader; SVP, Data & Analytics; and Vice President, Enterprise Systems (Digital and Technology). We’re so grateful for our volunteers who educate, excite and empower students!

TECH CORPS will train and deploy seven Oberlin High School graduates as summer staff for its technology programs in Lorain County this summer.

TECH CORPS Northeast Ohio Regional Manager Michelle Moore believes in hiring local talent to encourage local students. Moore explained, “I can’t think of a better way to show our Lorain County students that they are valued and have infinite potential than by hiring local grads to empower them.”

Imani had a busy day. The third grade student rode a roller coaster, swam with sharks, and was chased by a dinosaur, all without leaving her classroom at Georgian Heights Elementary School.

With the help of virtual reality glasses, Jordan immersed herself in these scenarios without the risk that generally comes with being chased by a hungry Tyrannosaurus. She said the glasses made her feel like she was actually there.
