TECH CORPS CEO Lisa M. Chambers and Franklin County Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Chief Economic Equity and Inclusion Officer Damika Withers were guests on Fox28 Good Day Columbus. They discussed the upcoming TECH CORPS Hackathon.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the TECH CORPS hackathon is witnessing complete transformations in just 12 hours. Students arrive with nervous energy and tentative smiles, many never having participated in a hackathon before.

But then, something remarkable happens…

By the end of the event, these same students are confidently presenting their projects, collaborating with newfound friends, and radiating excitement about their achievements. They leave armed with:

• Technical skills they didn’t know they had
• A powerful boost in confidence
• New friendships built on shared challenges
• Their first taste of real-world problem-solving

Out-of-school-time educators are excited to share the Building Blocks of Computer Science with their students! This five-hour professional development provides innovative strategies and engaging lessons to integrate computer science into out-of-school-time programs. This program is designed to inspire students to develop a passion for technology, prepare for future careers, and build confidence in their ability to thrive in an ever-evolving digital world.

Careers in Computer Science

Computer Science Education Week is a global call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in the field, and celebrate past achievements. This annual event takes place each December, and this year will run from December 9-15, 2024.

TECH CORPS CSEdWeek2024 lessons will introduce elementary and middle school students to computer science careers by focusing on how industry professionals

solve problems and use critical thinking skills. Students will engage in activities that connect to real-world tasks based on videos from industry professionals, ultimately helping them understand how the skills they use every day relate to exciting tech careers.
