Ayub, a 9th grader at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, Ohio, joined TECH CORPS’ 2025 Computing Career Corps after his sister, Ifrah, had a great experience in the program last year. As the only boy among six sisters, he balances a lively home life with his two biggest interests—technology and soccer. While he enjoys learning about tech, his true passion is soccer. As a freshman, he earned a spot on his school’s varsity team as a Left Wing and dreams of trying out for the Columbus Crew after high school.
At first, Ayub wasn’t sure how tech fit into his future. But through Computing Career Corps, he’s gained hands-on experience in game and web development—creating a Floppy Bird game and even building a bank website copy. Now, he’s seeing how technology can support his soccer dreams. Inspired by what he’s learned, Ayub is considering building a personal soccer website to showcase his skills and achievements—something that could help with recruitment and tryouts.
While he still envisions a future on the field, Computing Career Corps is showing him that technology isn’t just for coders—it’s a powerful tool that can open doors in any career path. Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll combine his love for soccer and tech in ways he never imagined!
The 2025 Computing Career Corps program is funded by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and administered by the Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services and helps students build skills, confidence, and opportunities to unlock the door to a successful future.
