TECH CORPS in the Spotlight

The Hackathon takes center stage on NBC4 and FOX 8.

TECH CORPS recently took to the spotlight to share how students across Ohio are transforming from tech consumers to creators. On NBC4’s Columbus Living, TECH CORPS CEO Lisa M. Chambers and 2024 winners Lauren and Nyamekye discussed how the Hackathon inspires students to build real apps, tackle community challenges, and develop essential skills like collaboration, problem solving, and presentation.

In Cleveland, FOX 8’s New Day Cleveland featured Lisa alongside Maria Spangler of the Nordson Corporation Foundation. Together, they highlighted how the Hackathon introduces students to technology in a fun, hands on way, no prior experience is required, and how sponsors and volunteers play a vital role in making the event possible.

How a love for coding continues to shape his future

Marshall Shorts discovered his passion for technology through Student TECH CORPS. The program sparked his love for coding and inspired him to start a freelance web design business while still in high school.

Now a secondary education major with a minor in information systems, Marshall continues to apply what he learned, designing websites for his fraternity and mentoring students of his own. He credits TECH CORPS with teaching him perseverance, professionalism, and the power of never giving up, skills that continue to shape his success today.
